• Our primary goal is to implement reliable, cost-effective X-ray and telemedicine services at first-referral hospitals on a sustainable basis.
• We ensure that our digital X-ray modality and model is designed to function in medical settings where there are minimal resources and extreme climates.
• In the mid-1970s, researchers at the World Health Organization (WHO) found that sophisticated imaging technology – often donated parts and systems – did not work in first-referral hospitals. It was expensive to operate, prone to breakdown or malfunction, and difficult for relatively untrained personnel to operate and maintain.
• Based on this research, WHO created a simple X-ray model that produces high quality X-rays at a low cost; can be operated by staff with minimal training; and delivers timely primary care to patients – it is known as the World Health Imaging System for Radiology (WHIS-RAD).
• Faulty installation and lack of maintenance account for the most common reasons that X-rays do not function in first-referral hospitals. The WHIS-RAD model is packaged with user manuals (in 14 languages) to facilitate imaging services that are easy to install, operate, maintain, and replace on site.
• The WHIS-RAD has transformed our ability to provide affordable X-ray services that can be maintained effectively in first-referral hospitals over the long term.
• We support lasting strategic investments in primary health care for underserved people.
• We collaborate with our global network of partners to provide our users with proper unit installation and offer continuous training, maintenance and service support, medical consultation, managerial expertise, and documentation services.
