Improving primary health care delivery for underserved patients worldwide
For approximately 3.6 billion people, or about 60 percent of the world’s population, there is little or no access to basic diagnostic imaging, such as a chest or extremity x-ray. In the Developing World, there is a severe shortage of good imaging equipment. There are very few radiologists to look at the images and trained staff to use the X-ray equipment. Yet for all patients, being able to have an X-ray examinationcan mean the difference between having the right or wrong treatment, between life and death, between rapid recovery or loss of earnings resulting in poverty for the whole family. WHIA aims to provide very high quality, reliable X-ray equipment for any hospital. The World Health Organization (WHO) calls local hospitals the "first-referral hospitals" and recommends that all of them should have a great X-ray unit and people who know how to use it. We work with these hospitals to help them, because we realize that money is short and there are many demands on them. WHIA also tries to ensure that excellent equipment is easily installed, is safe, and operates smoothly without break-down. With the help of our many partners in many parts of the world, we hope to make sure that diagnostic imaging is available for everyone. |
