our visits to guatemala

May 2009
In May, a team from WHITIA visited Guatemala City where they met with the Vice President and Health Minister to discus expanding our solution within the country and toured the first clinic that will be receiving our recommended solution, the Salud Y Bienestar Municipal Clinic.  Before the clinic can receive the digital X-ray unit, there are certain renovations that would have to be completed.    This visit also gave us the opportunity to form an in-country team of participants who will help oversee the site renovations and installation in WHITIA’s physical absence.  This team consists of government officials, Rotarians as well as academic personnel.

August 2009
Another visit was made by WHITIA representatives to oversee the clinic’s progress and meet with various officials in August.  We were able to secure a commitment from the government to collaborate in a joint effort to bring our recommended solution to the first two of fifteen identified sites within Guatemala.  During this visit, WHITIA conducted site assessments on two additional clinics, UNICAR and INCAN, and met with the Guatemalan Department of Energy to better understand Guatemala’s requirements for X-ray installations.
